Hi Teresa,

Daniel, as you probably know, has some significant attachment issues, so the emotions surrounding the adoption are complicated for him. However, his anxiety appears to have greatly decreased since being told he was going to be adopted. I believe a huge burden has been lifted off his shoulders, and he feels a great sense of relief knowing that he won’t be moving to any other homes in the future or thinking that he may have to leave on any given day. He is very much loved in the home he is in and has become a part of their family. This doesn’t mean, however, that he has forgotten who you are or who his siblings are or that he has a biological family out there. I was in the home when the foster/adoptive mother told him they were going to move forward with adopting him, and one of the things she said to him was that she doesn’t ever want to take your place, but she just wants to be there for him while you are unable to do so.  So, just know that Daniel is well-loved and well-cared for, and that this will be good for him and offer him that stability that he hasn’t had in a long time.

Hope you’re doing well.
